Malcolm Strachan - About Time
MALCOLM STRACHAN has been at the forefront of the soul/funk scene for a very long time.
The Scotsman has built up a huge reputation in a professional career spanning over 20 years.
He has played a major role in the success of funk favourites The Haggis Horns.
This time round he's gone off on a slightly different route with his new album, the aptly titled "About Time".
It's very much a jazzier offering from what we normally expect and something of a change of direction for the acclaimed trumpet player.
"Over the years my career as a musician has involved working with many different bands," reveals Strachan.
"I've had a lot of fun over the years playing those styles but it's always been a dream of mine to make a jazz album."
Strachan has been involved with some major names in his past... Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Martha Reeves, The Vandellas and Jamiroquai to name but a few.
But the influence of his father, who first reached him a trumpet aged seven, has stayed with him.
The result is nine soul jazz tracks now available on Haggis Records.
"I got a real buzz from creating them so I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them," adds Strachan.
The album will be released on Haggis Records on 27th March but can be pre-order on Bandcamp using the link below, where you can also listen to 2 of the tracks.
